30 Days Wild Day 22 - Ants
Yes I know I have blipped these little fellas before, but they were the only photographs I took in a very busy day, fortunately they fit in with 30 days wild.
We went to the Lodge for gardening and cutting the grass. Cutting the grass always requires me to move the 60cm (2 feet) diameter imitation Ammonite. A nod to all the years Clickychick ran a rock shop/jewellers. Under there for the 14 years it has been there is an ants nest. The easiest way to keep the grass down round the ammonite is remove it. Give them a couple of minutes to get the eggs and pupae below ground then mow.
It is interesting to see how things change as the season goes on, earlier in the year it was heaving with eggs and pupae. Today there was only this small clump. I suppose their breeding season is coming to an end or given the weather we have been having they were underground as the concrete gets hot.
