East Lothian Countryside
A quiet morning, so I go for a bike ride to get the legs cycling again. I head down to the Innocent Railway path down to Milton Road East, then to Musselburgh. Instead of following the coastal road, I head up Haddington Rd, then follow the B road along the top of Prestonpans to the Meadowmill roundabout. I turn left, head down to the coast road, and turn left on to the coast road.
Its back through Prestonpans to Musselburgh to the River Esk. There is a cycle routethat heads inland, so I follow that to Whitecraig. I do a wee recce around Dalkeith Country Park, where I take the main blip.
Then its back to Whitecraig, and the River Esk path for a wee while. I then follow the cycle path to Monktonhall. I turn left on to Old Craighall Road to Millerhill, across the roundabout, and on to the Loadhead path at Shawfair. The path heads vaguely west back into Edinburgh.
Insead of turning off at Lasswade Rd, I cycle on. Where the path passes under the Edinburgh bypass, I stop to admire the graffiti, a small part of it is shown in Extra 1.
I then carry on along the path into Midlothian through Loanhead, over Bilston Glen, to Roslin. Roslin is busy with traffic, tourists making their way to Roslin Chapel. I cycle through Roslin then take the back road to the top of Auchendinny Brae. From there I cycle through Bush to the Seafield Moor Rd, and home via Hillend.
The route can be seen at Relive here. (As well as a few more photos)
In the afternoon, I head down to Morningside, visit a few charity shops, chat to a friend for a while, then head for coffee and cake.
Back to normality tomorrow. Work.
