parrot and loquats

My little cottage is quite old (in Australian parlance) and probably one of the original homesteads in the area, settled on a few acres. Along with the requisite (now) towering conifers, the currently uninhabited chook yard has the also requisite lemon tree, teetering water tank and well, passion fruit vine and loquat tree.
The parrots LOVE the loquats and perch amongst the branches chewing on the sweet juicy fruit which tastes like a mix of mango and peach.

Also known as the Japanese or Chinese plum while delicious to taste they are not a rewarding mouthful with a yellowish skin that speckles easily and can have up to five pips and very fiddly!
The tree yields a bountiful harvest and it's such a waste to see them fall to the ground. I've just discovered they can be used to make jellies and jams, a fruit wine and when eaten in quantity have a soporific effect.

Perhaps that's why the parrots are looking so happy and dozy at the moment!
