Life's Little Moments

Fancy Pants

I thought I had my blip in the bag first thing this morning when I found an extremely accommodating meadowhawk (dragonfly) in the garden.  So cooperative, in fact, that she road around on my finger for a while.  Then she posed prettily on a flower in the garden - you can see HERE on Flicker

But then, I spotted this amazing creature!  This is a caterpillar that I've ever only seen on one occasion, and not in my garden.  So, you can imagine my delight when I spotted it on one of the cherry trees.  It was a mad dash back into the house to grab the macro lens and then a bit of a kerfluffle as I tried to find the exact leaf it was on.  He's a White-Marked Tussock Moth caterpillar, by the way.  And isn't he just about the snazziest cat you've ever seen?

Actually it was a fun day in the garden as I also saw a red and black weevil that was a first for me.  No common name, just a very long taxonomic one.  You can see him HERE on Flickr.

Add to that the baby woodpeckers, baby wrens and other assorted wildlife...well, it was a good day.  The only dark part of the day was when I tested out the two external drives that I was working on yesterday and discovered that one still refuses to work with the Mac.  I'm at wit's end.  I know there isn't anything wrong with the drive because it works fine on the PC.  I'll give it another go tonight.  I refuse to be beaten by a small blue device!

It appears that someone has dumped a cat on our Lane.  I find it drinking water from the ground bird bath, hunting birds and chipmunks during the day and mice at night.  Our neighbor says it eats some of the food he puts out for his cats.  It's a very pretty cat and appears young, but very skittish.  I may try to trap it and bring it to a no-kill shelter.  Poor thing.  That said, I don't want it dining on Flossie.

Happy Hump Day!
