Kids will be kids....

...even when they're birds!
We had just started eating lunch when there was such a "cheeping, chirping" racket out front that I had to go see what was happening.
There were two "baby" birds out on the shepherds hook, waiting for food, who were not getting along at all. While they look quiet in the first picture, it didn't last long, as the bird on the left kept knocking the one on the right off of the top of the hook; the poor little guy on the rt. would squawk, flap its' wings--landing on top of my feeder--gather itself, fly back up, & start squawking. The one on the lt. would start to squawk and flap it's wings at the other one until it got knocked off again!  And of course  mom or dad flew in with food just as that poor bird got knocked off for at least the third time, so the bully got the food. (middle picture) I don't think it had even swallowed the food before it started yelling for more! (3rd. picture) The other one, which had been squawking from the top of the feeder, hopped back up onto the top of the hook, but it was too late as the parent had already left. If I hadn't seen the European Starling feeding these, I'd never have guessed that's what these birds were, as at this point they look nothing like the parents!! I know in nature that it's survival of the fittest, but I hope the parent makes sure that the spunky little bird gets some of the food, too!!   :))
