The Things You See
Because the coupon for a free coffee and cake at John Lewis was burning a hole in my wallet, it was decided to take up the offer this morning and, while we were at it, gauge the progress of the hole on the ground that was once the St James Centre.
One coffee, one cup of hot water, one very large herb scone shared, meant no money changing hands. His Lordship and I certainly know how to party.
Unfortunately the money saved was swallowed up in the purchase of a heavy duty mat for the back door.
As we walked home up the High Street this lady and her dog sat at St Giles Cathedral, she playing her accordion while he stared into the middle distance wearing a smart neckerchief and sunglasses. The latter were somewhat redundant given the lack of sun and general cold greyness. Still they did give him an air of authority.
The prevalent tat shops which exist for the use of tourists are doing a roaring trade in scarves, hats ands warm anoraks.
It’s OK for the visitors, they can return from whence they came and be warm again. 13° is a rubbish temperature for mid summer.
