Moulting

Around this time of the year the Mute Swans begin their moult. This pen has just begun her moult. She will not be able to fly again until she has her new flight feathers - about six weeks. Amazingly, with breeding pairs the pen and cob do not moult at the same time as this would render them vulnerable to predators.
