Tiled out today

Off today, sorting myself out after the fabulous holiday, which has meant washing, gardening etc.

Anyway, still had time for a wander in Stockbridge to get something me steps in, which gave me the opportunity to blip the marvellous Victorian tiled shop entrance to what is now the Shelter bookshop. After doing some research, it turns out that this was a Buttercup Dairy Company shop, one of a chain throughout Edinburgh in the Victorian times. It’s weird to think that people were walking over this exact tiled entrance over 100 years ago.

The story of the Buttercup Dairy Company is most interesting, particularly as the owner, a commited Baptist, died penniless having given away his fortune to help the poor and needy. At one point there were more than 250 shops in Scotland.

I hope you have had a good start to the week.
