Great fun
I had wanted to try a city tour on a Segway ever since we had seen tourists do just that in Copenhagen a few years ago and so before we left home we booked a two hour city tour by Segway in Valencia. Maria, our guide, is explaining that up until 1957 the River Turia ran through the centre of Valencia. This river was very much prone to bursting its banks and flooding the city so a decision was made to divert the river onto a different pathway around the city centre. The river bed was subsequently turned into a great recreational park with access for runners, cyclists, scooters, rollerskaters, walkers and Segways. After 15 minutes instruction on how to navigate the Segway (lean forward, backwards, sideways) we were off and had a great time. I had slightly worried that I might damage my back, but it was fairly easy to use although everyone suffered some aches in calves and thighs when we stopped. it was a great way to get around quickly especially as there was no motorised transport in the park.
