Well the title for my blip should have been 'A good start' to the refitting of my bathroom this week. Unfortunately about an hour after starting to strip the bathroom the plumber came to tell me there was a problem. Under the vinyl are some tiles which might contain asbestos so they have to be tested by a specialist company and if they do contain any asbestos the specialist company will have to remove them at my expense. Evidently asbestos in floor tiles and other things was only banned in the UK at the end of 1999. Initially he was told by Homefit that he had to leave the site immediately, then they said he could remove the wall tiles. What annoys me most is that I signed the contract and paid in full 7 months ago - surely if this was a possibility (which it was as built before 2000 and the work involves moving some pipework) they could have sent someone in advance to check!!!! So the test is being done tomorrow morning and then I'll have to wait 48 hours for the result. As the plumber had it in his diary for 2 weeks, it might still work out ok if the result is negative. The same tiles are elsewhere in the property too. Not happy :(((((
