Sandö Bridge

Back in the 80's both Jan and I worked on the island of Sandö, teaching English. A favourite lunch time walk was to follow the road around the island, taking in this magnificent bridge.
There were often other interesting sights as we walked because the island was, and still is, also a school for the rescue services so it wasn't uncommon to come across a train crash or a burning building as we took our midday walk.
Back in the 80's we often saw pensioners, playing the part of "civilians" in these exercises and today the wheel has turned far enough that we are those pensioners!  Today we were helping out in a similar exercise. We were very fortunate with the weather, and the scene of our "accident" provided us with this lovely view.
The bridge was something of an engineering marvel when it opened in 1943, and has its own Wikipedia entry, illustrated by one of my photographs from 2008, now also loaded up to Blip - now there's a backblip for you!
(If you need to see me in my full artificial head wound goryness - mostly ketchup - Jan has posted it as an extra.)
