First harvest!

Off to The Tamar garden centre today to buy locusts for Gunther - he's such a greedy chap! Whilst there I bought canes and some netting to build a cage for my brassicas.  A coir chicken doormat also made it's way into my bag! It was only £10 and I've seen similar for 4 times that price! I couldn't resist 2 more solar lights for the garden - also cheap as chips! In the greengrocers I got all I wanted plus many things not on my list! It's one of those places that sells dry food at ridiculous prices as near to their Best Before date. You never know what you might be coming out with! They also stock jams and chutneys to rival any supermarket. I bought a jar of quince jelly and some raspberry vinegar along with nappy sacks and fruit and veg that were on my list! I won't list all I bought but some Elizabeth Shaw confectionary was also popped in my basket!
I stopped at the allotment on the way home as the previous evening I had dropped my cardigan. There it was hanging on the allotment gate! I fed the hens the greens from the grocery and then pootled on my allotment. So relaxing to inspect my plot and do a bit of gentle weeding. I can know tell the weeds from the flower seeds I sowed in my new bed a while ago! I have many hours of gentle weeding ahead! I'm also excited that some beautiful opium poppy seed that I scattered on my new strawberry bed have come up! I took the seedbeds last year from another plot, with his permission - sadly he recently died of cancer.
As I was pootling near my new Brassica bed I disturbed a blackbird in my two redcurrant bushes- time for harvesting!  I grabbed a plastic container from my store - you know the ones that you buy tomatoes and other fruit in - very handy to keep up the allotment! It was a large container and was soon full - still more fruit on the bushes - plenty for me and the birds! I gave some to the hens too - they were very excited!
A very pleasant and gentle day!
2 blips today - I keep falling behind in my posting, replying  and commenting on your Journals! Many apologies - the allotment is taking all my time and energy!
