Surprises

Hazelwood Castle Hotel was a delightful surprise. When I was doing my A levels the school bus took me past the end of the drive to the castle - it wasn't a hotel in those days. We've lived not too far away for decades but have never been till now. And then today we want to Spofforth Castle - ruined as you can see. It's just North of Wetherby on the Harrogate road. Again it's somewhere I've always known about but we have never visited. And it's brilliant (or it is if you're as fond of old ruins as I am).
Wrapped the few days away up with lunch at Betty's and a potter round the RHS gardens at Harlow Carr.
Back home now. We haven't been far but it's been a real change.
