Memorials

I am always struck how different countries commemorate what and who is important to them in their memorials .

Outside the Irish Parliament is a memorial to those who secured independence . Across the road in Merrion Square Gardens this eternal flame , within a glass sided pyramid which also contains four bronze military figures in various uniforms, honours those in the Defence Forces who have given their lives in the “service of the state” as the plaque states . It is my extra picture today .
