Last day on the islands
I was very tired this morning, following the long trip to St. Kilda yesterday. By the time I had packed and said goodbye to Arabella and David, the morning was half gone.
I set out on the walk to the temple. The route takes in three lovely small beaches beyond Northton. Chatting to people on the way meant that I ran out of time.....but I came within a quarter of a mile of my goal.
I had a lunch date in Tarbert with Lesley and David Cadwgan, who made the journey from the island of Scarp to see me. We ate an excellent lunch at The Hebrides Hotel.
D and L need to leave Scarp for a couple of weeks because David’s mother has died. The hens have to go on holiday during this time and they (the humans!) have to chose good enough weather to make the trip. The forecast is not good. then the ferry off Harris is fully booked for a few days too....
I drove around Scalpay which was interesting and visited a new photographer’s gallery by the road. Impressive.
In the evening I drove to Luskentyre. I could not be on Harris without going. You can see that the light is fading as I took a photo of the waves. I was the only person on the vast expanse of beach.
As I left a young couple arrived. She announced that they were going to the beach for a few”toons” indicating a ghetto blaster and a few whiskies! They were very happy and I was happy to have had the solitude before their party!!
My new B&B has a wonderful view and is only 10 minutes from the ferry.
