Nymans

It'a a chemo free week for Gail so it was time for some fun and relaxation, at a very leisurely pace.

Gail chose Nymans in Handcross, Sussex. Lovely gardens and not too far to travel in the car. AND an old familiar drive for me as we always took the back roads to visit my parents in Worthing and passed through Handcross. 

There was no hot sun today which was great as Gail is to avoid sun atm. She forgot to take her hat too so the cloud cover was perfect. In my extra, she suits the flower beds. 

Nymans was the family home of Anne Messel.  In 1925 she married Richard Armstrong-Jones, a barrister. and was the mother of Anthony Armstrong -Jones, husband of Princess Margaret. She became "a face to watch among the set known as the "Bright Young Things" " and had impeccable style and was frequently featured in newspapers and magazines. 

Nymans suffered a terrible fire in 1947 and most of the house was destroyed. Anne moved there permanently in 1979 after her second husband died. She loved the gardens and insisted on giving advice and help to the gardeners. In 1953 the National Trust took ownership of the property and has ensured the gardens remain as close as possible to the way they were kept by Anne's parents. 

We will visit again! It got our thumbs up!
