Canaletto

I wasn't expecting to be overly excited about the Canaletto exhibition at Holyrood - a set of painting for c18th grand tourists would be interesting but a little repetitive.   Nothing can prepare you to see these masterpieces 'in the flesh' however.  Some of them are large and the theatrical detail of scenes is stunning.  Well worth a visit if you have the chance.

In the evening A and I went to La Potinere in Gullane - a favorite and special treat we allow ourselves every few years.   While the food was as good as ever the service was painfully slow and, in the end we had to forgo the sweet to get a taxi home. 

A walk on the beach at 10.30 in daylight ended a most pleasant day.
