Glamour Queens

Took quite a few photos today but this grainy horror is the one that makes me laugh the most.

Had huge lie-in this morning - didn't wake up till 9.15. Even Betsy was asleep till 8. Al dragged himself up at about 9.30. I woke up, looked at the clock, remembered I had to make a birthday cake and got up in one swift movement. The cake was in the oven by 9.30!

Nibs came over at 11.30. Nick has taken Chantelle to see his parents. ?We all had lunch together, then I took Al and his friend Holly to see Ice Age on Ice at Wembley. It was a joint birthday treat. I don't know what I was thinking!

I actually like the Ice Age movies, but I had fairly low expectations of a live show on ice, but though it wasn't exactly the best thing I've ever seen it might have been worse. It was almost circus-like, with lots of tumbling, high wire and stuff, and lots of songs and dancing.

The children liked it and that's what it's all about. There was a kid next to me, about 2, I would think, and I was gobsmacked when, during the interval, his dad got out an iPad for him to play with! God forbid he might have to talk to his dad for ten minutes, or just manage with his own thoughts! When the second half began with a ballad, he started shouting 'Boring! Boring!' which though technically true, was rather impolite! For the last 15 mins of the show he played games on his dads iphone.

Anyway, I took Al to his friends for a sleepover afterwards, and came home. Betsy and Nibs had had a lovely afternoon. Charity shop-shopping, tea and cakes, chatting, and watching Depeche Mode DVDs. The sort of thing I've been doing with Nibs for years!

We had a great evening. Fish cakes and chips, red wine (not Betsy!) and Saturday Night Telly. Chris kept texting us and though I know he loves his job, I knew he was missing home and a bit jealous!

Betsy went to bed and nibs and I drank a lot of red wine. I will pay for it tomorrow.
