The Line

It’s the second time I’ve been to Bromley House library and last time, I didn’t see the meridian line which runs through it. It’s one of only three in the country other than The Prime Meridian in Greenwich and one of the others is in The Harbour Master’s office in the town I went to school in, Ramsgate. Before the railways, there would have been 11 minutes’ difference between Ramsgate and Nottingham. I hadn’t realised that it took 40 years for a unified standard time to be adopted across Great Britain!
The lines between my different roles are a cause for contemplation this week.
