Tuesday: Goddess of Democracy
I had a great meeting this afternoon in the Rare Books Department of the University of British Columbia. I got to handle a signed first edition of an Oscar Wilde, a William Morris and I saw a handwritten letter from Virginia Woolf to Vita Sackville-West. My colleague, Erica, was beside herself when I told her I also held a first edition of 'Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone'..........I also had a lovely chat with the English professor who was showing me round about which were our favourite Victorian authors. I wish I could have more meetings like that..........sigh.........
On my way to the meeting, I passed this statue, the 'Goddess of Democracy - erected to commemorate Tiananmen Square. Odd that I should it for the first time today - on the actual anniversary.
We also had a great evening. Janice came over for dinner - she's a newish friend but great company. K. cooked up a great meal and we enjoyed some really excellent conversation.
