Diary of an Edinburgher

Bunking Off!

Set off through the Meadows for my Pilates lesson this morning. I was a slightly un-enthusiastic, and then the idea of not going entered my head, and became enticing. Even as I headed up Middle Meadow Walk, I looked at my watch and told myself that I could still make it if I cut through George Square... no. My feet took me on into town. A stroll through town would do me just as much good, I reckoned. It was like bunking off school. I felt quite naughty and slightly exhilarated.

As I came by Victoria Street, I could see lights and vans aplenty. Filming! I walked along the terrace, and could see the big light diffusers pointing in a bay window. Inside I could see more reflectors and someone sitting being filmed. I was directly opposite them, at the same height. I stopped to have a better look. Was it Rebus?

'Oi! Madam! Keep walking please!' yelled a man further along, whose job it was to stop people gawping and being in the shot. Apparently it's Kate Atkinson's 'Case Histories' they're filming. Look out for my starring role!

I went up to the Castle, now that I've got a Historic Scotland card I can go whenever I like. I think I was the only Scottish person there, apart from the people working there.

The All Blacks are in town, and I half thought that they might be doing a bit of sight seeing in between training. I'd LOVE to blip one of them. Preferably McCaw, but I'll settle for any one of them. Maybe they haven't got any time off - they're worried about the game on Sunday... Lol!

I squashed in with the cannons facing to the East. In this shot, you can see Calton Hill on the left, and Arthur's Seat on the right. And away in the distance, between the church spire and the hill slopes, I can (just about) see the Cockenzie Power Station from yesterday's shot. And I've just realised that I can also see Saturday's shot - the summit of Arthur's Seat.
