Hassan Fathy
Hassan Fathy was born in 1900 and died in 1989. He is a very well known and respected Egyptian architect, who pioneered building the Adobe Mud Brick homes in Egypt.
Less than 10 minutes cycle from my house, is the village of Hassan Fathy. In it's day, it was magnificent. Built with mud brick, it meant that whatever the temperature was outside, the inside would remain constant, all year round, even in the height of summer.
It is in need of restoration, as the houses are fragile and crumbling, but the Mosque is intact and remains beautiful.
Fathy houses are the inspiration of builders today all over the World, but especially here in Luxor. Even my house has domed rooms, but not in the traditional mud brick.
