Chimney devil

Today I was in the Lake District and after a grey start it turned into a beautiful sunny day. Visiting the Wordsworth Museum and Dove Cottage I noticed the distinctive chimneys, like little sculptures. I am sure they said they were called chimney devils but can’t find anything online mentioning them so perhaps misheard?
