Ambelside
Today it was a 30 minute ferry to Ambleside from Bowness, where we walked the mile from the pier into the village (although there is another cute little old fashioned bus that takes ferry passengers into the town).
The slate buildings are very attractive on a lovely sunny day, but I am sure on a wet miserable winters day make the area very dark.
The Bridge House was built in 17th century to access land the other side of Stock Beck, and was later turned into a house. Its uses include an apple store, family home, cobblers shop, and tea room. It is weeny but I guess will never suffer from rising damp !
Extras are Ferry from Barrowness, arriving at Ambleside and last evening walk along the lakeside for R.
