Life's Little Moments

Little Mr. 35

It is time to blip Yardbird #35 today - the House Wren.  Every spring in the last week of April/first week of May, the first male House Wren shows up in our yard and immediately commences singing his bubbling, enthusiastic song. He doesn't stop, even after he's attracted not one, but TWO lady wrens.  And the whole time they are sitting on their nests, he sings.  As it turns out, even when he has a teeny, tiny insect to feed teeny, tiny baby wrens, he still sings.  I believe this box of 7 babies probably hatched sometime yesterday.  I have posted a heavily cropped cell phone snap of the nestlings in Extra.  They occupy one corner of a nest box that measure roughly 5 inches x 5 inches - that gives you an idea as to how small they are.

I expect the second box of babies will hatch any day now, so our little Mr 35 is going to be one busy boy.  Not only will he help feed two broods, but he's also busy building stick nests in every empty box in our yard for the next brood.

And, finally, some very good news!  I went to the imaging center today and picked up a copy of the radiologists report on last week's brain MRI.  I've gotten pretty good at understanding the reports and I'm very happy to say that there doesn't appear to be anything inside my cranium that doesn't belong!  Very happy camper here.  My Dad also got some good news of his own today, so this will call for a double celebration when I see him tomorrow.

Packing tonight as we must leave by 5 AM for the airport.
