Proud mining history.

Wallyford is an old mining village just up the hill from Musselburgh. Of course, the mines are all gone now, however, they are not forgotten as there are various monuments around the village, including the ‘miners stone’(blipped above).

Though the mining has gone, the village is taking on a new identity as a commuter town for Edinburgh, with huge numbers (over 2,000 new homes under development) of new houses being built with such names as ‘Silver Meadow’, ‘St. Clements Well’, ‘Amberlea’ etc. Alas, I suspect that the village will be much changed in the future, but I hope the proud history is not forgotten.

Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed your Sunday.
