Red tailed bumblebee
We're finally seeing more bees in the garden, and this red-tailed bumblebee was busy in the alliums. It was quite a large one, but not big enough I think to be a queen. I imagine the queens would be too busy in the nest by now in any case. You can see from the somewhat battered trailing edges of the wings that this one has presumably been around a bit, although otherwise it looked very handsome. There were a few honeybees about, and lately I've seen tree bees, which seem scarcer this year so far than in some previous years.
