Oxford Blipmeet

At the Oxford blipmeet it was good to see Taffydil, Landscapeartist and fitzbilly again, whom I originally met in Bristol in April, and also to meet for the first time spotsoftime, woodleywise, hildasrose, FionaMuddyFox. Arachne and MariaInWales I had met previously, not through blipfoto.

The weather could not have been improved upon as Arachne led us a twisty route through some very diverse environments. We went along a towpath between a canal and a river where we were able to witness self-impressed young males displaying their anything-but prowess with narrow boats and locks. There were also a family of swans, a kingfisher, some lovely dappled shade with wildflowers and a spiders' web, all keen to be photographed.

Then followed the architecture tour incorporating an incredible array of old, modern and historic. Modern buildings have greater potential for play I have concluded as FionaMuddyFox toyed with reflections in the Blavatnik School of Government building and then a group of us attempted to prove Roger Penrose wrong by looking for repeats in the pattern of his famous paving in front of the Maths building.

Some dove into the Eagle and Child pub to have a quick peek at the back room where JRR Tolkein and CS Lewis used to meet regularly and others of us took a little detour to the Turf Tavern, where Bill Clinton is alleged to have not inhaled. We were spoiled for choice of potential postcard shots all along Broad Street but were denied access to some areas around the Sheldonian where wedding photographers were not keen to include our naturally ageing faces in their commission shots.

Through the Covered Market I spotted the vacancy from Hell and decided not to return later with my CV. A look at the punts at Magdalen Bridge and then across Christ Church Meadow to the Head of the River pub where we rested tired feet and did not colour co-ordinate with the furniture.
