Being Sunday we decided to have a walk and chose Chasewater because Cannock Photographic Society has set up its annual exhibition in the Innovation Centre on site.

Well imagine our joy on coming across a small herd of red deer. I had the Nikon v1 with me so wasn't that hopeful of a close up but the deer seemed quite content to let us approach them.

After that excitement we went back to the centre, had a 'special' from the cafe and had a look over the exhibition.

There is much controversy surrounding the club and in particular one of its members who was announced as the winner of the Landscape Photographer of the Year only a week ago. Well since then there has been much discussion on various internet blogs and forums regarding the winning image. On Friday, the organisers announced that the photograph, along with a couple of other images from the same photographer, had been disqualified for over manipulation.

I feel desperately sorry for the photographer. I believe that it was ignorance of the rules rather than deception on his part. He has gone from euphoria to desolation in a little matter of a week. The right decision has been made but some responsibility must be placed with the organisers for allowing this situation to develop. Many of us now own the award book which has the wrong image as the eventual winner.

It is an interesting debate as to how much manipulation is allowed in an image. We have to process raw images, we may add levels or curves, you need to sharpen. What happens if we have a dust spot on the sensor?
