Shortening days

We seem to have suddenly dropped into that phase of the year when you can practically hear the planet creaking towards the furthest point in its orbit from the sun.

Mornings have been crisp and bright and then come mid-day there's a subtle change in the light and temperature. As if we've turned a corner and are walking in shadow.

Around 4pm this afternoon I found myself digging up carrots in a cold vegetable garden. The wind was light but bone chilling, the soil wet and heavy with the possibility of a frost lurking in the corners.

Sunset was officially at 4.11pm and I took this pic at around 3.40pm. At time of posting an hour later the day has gone and we have all retreated inside for the evening. I do love the changes in the seasons and the differences in our lifestyle from the long summer days to the short sharp intensity of winter light.
