Tribute to Man's Best Friend

H.R.H. Prince Chula Chakrabongse, 28-3-1908 to 30-12-1963, was born in Bangkok, Siam ( now Thailand). At the age of 12 he was sent to study in Britain at Harrow, then Trinity College, Cambridge and did not return home until the age of 23.He was a member of the Royal family of Siam, and his forebear King Mongkut was the inspiration for the film 'Anna and the King of Siam'. In the advent of the uprising in Siam, and later WW2, Chula, cousin Biri and King Rama settled in England. Chula was remembered as an author and for his successful racing car team. While studying at Cambridge his companion was a dog called Tony. When the dog died in 1934 the grieving prince donated a dog's drinking fountain to Cambridge. Sadly now, for many years, the trough has been neglected and marooned on a traffic island on Chesterton Road next to 'Office Supplies' so nobody walks their dog that way any more. I really think it should be moved to a nearby park by the river where many people walk their dogs.
