First Flower

I managed to somehow kill off my clematis last year, just when it was beginning to put on a real show across the fence on the patio.  We sourced this one,  a different variety but apparently hardier, and today its first flower opened with a purple centre.  Isn't it great to spend the whole day out of doors pottering with plants?  We have brought the window boxes and the jardiniere down from the allotment, just the hanging baskets to come now and it feels like summer is on its way.

I say we spent the whole day out in the garden but actually we were orienteering around York in the morning!  We set out early on the train and were home before midday!
