Nothing happens here...

Not the day I had in mind...

Nice simple job for this morning - replace some broken bricks in an old garden step.  The feature (haha) was thrown in  lovingly built by me in 1995.  It gave access to a part of the farm field, as it was then, beyond the area we used.  I'd forgotten what an over engineered waste of materials magnificent construction it was.

I removed the offending bricks and found another layer so they came out too.  Then I discovered more bricks below soil level so I started to dig them out - you never know when they might come in handy.

I excavated in total 68 Victorian imperial measurement bricks.  MrsDB decided that as well as a new step it might be nice (for her) to have a little retaining wall next to a flower bed she's establishing.  And so the half an hour tweak became a morning's work.  Then it dragged into the afternoon when she insisted I remove some old tree stumps from three cypress that we chopped down in 2010.

I've pushed a wheel barrow loaded with gravel, soil and garden waste for two miles today (says my iPhone pedometer).  I'm cream crackered.
