Spiders
When this flower opened on the rhododendron hundreds of tiny gold coloured spiders appeared in a more or less invisible web among the flower trumpets. Presumably they must have either been there all along, or have just been deposited there. I don't know anything about the life-cycle of spiders - I'll have to look it up. I noticed another similar nest of spiders on another flower in the garden, so it must be that time of year. This may be a risky place to hatch out as it's on the flightpath of various insect-eating garden birds, and sooner or later one of them is bound to notice. Unless the spiders have got some sort of defence mechanism of course.
