How do you measure happiness?
The standard method is related to income but there is plenty of evidence that the stuff that makes people happy- strong family relationships, walk in woods, listening to music, even using apps on smartphones are all free and cannot be measured in monetary terms.
Diane Coyle from Cambridge University raised the question of whether in measuring the GDP of nation, as an indicator of a country’s prosperity and therefore happiness is accurate.
Economists like statistics and charts yet she concedes that the story they reveal may well be only part of the picture.
The conclusion, if there is one, is that the things that really matter for most people cannot be measured in financial terms.
And Hay weather lived up to its reputation for mud and rain though the sun was shining by the end of the day.
