Hatton Locks

Today was mostly lovely. Redeemed the crappiness of much of yesterday!
When Miss L woke up she climbed down and curled up in our sleeping bag with us. That was pretty snug so I took Archie out for a walk round the cornfield next to the campsite. He was so funny bouncing through the corn like a bonkers Zebedee!! He nearly got stuck down a rabbit hole and luckily didn't spot the massive rabbit that went lolloping across the path right in front of us.
Breakfast was bacon sandwiches for me and Mr K and bacon and eggs for the Little Misses. Oh and a bowl of Rice Krispies with sugar for me. Because I'm on holiday!
Then we packed up in the ridiculously hot sunshine before heading to Hatton Locks, a couple of miles down the road from the campsite.
What a beautiful place!
We had a lovely afternoon walking along the canal and some of the twenty-one locks taking the Grand Union Canal up 46 metres in just over two miles.
The Little Misses had a fine time crossing over the locks, sitting on the edge and splashing their feet wildly, watching the boats go in and out of the locks and generally having a lovely time in the sun.
We went to the cafe for lunch and I had one of the best Ploughman's I've ever had. A huge wodge of stilton, a huge wodge of brie and another of chutney, homemade chutney, crusty French bread. Amazing!!
And there may have been ice cream and Sprite.
And tea and cake.
While Mr K and I drank our drinks the Little Misses climbed over to the other side of the canal and sat dangling their feet in the canal and splashing as hard as they could whilst discussing the purchase of their new inflatable boat that they've decided they're saving for. It's going to be called Ripple!
We walked a mile or so down the locks enjoying the gorgeous scenery and boiling hot sun before coming back up to Penny and heading home.
The beauty of camping not too far away was that we were home in less than an hour and had time to unpack, get some laundry on, bathe the filthy urchins and get ready for school all before it got too late. Perfect!
