Moonrise .....

..... over the sewage works.

I've had a great time looking at the sky this evening. Just after I finished work there was a nice bright Iridium satellite flare and then I spent an hour watching satellites fly overhead in the lovely clear chilly sky.

After cooking myself a nice curry to warm myself back up, I decided to have another wander to watch and try to photograph some of the fireworks going off tonight. I headed down to the field by Ashlands to avoid getting too much light pollution and as soon as I arrived a family started setting off some large display fireworks on the field. I took some lovely photos of all the firework bursts but decided to take one last shot of the stars in the sky. As I walked further down the field I spotted a lit structure in the distance and went to have a look. The structure turned out to be some plant work in the local sewage works.

I steadied my camera on top of the domed stone wall that surrounds the site and took a few shots. As I was about to leave I noticed a faint glow on the horizon, it was the moon begining to rise so I waited around for another half an hour constantly snapping away and then headed back home thinking I'd got my blip. When I uploaded the photos to my computer I found that they were a bit out of focus so headed back to the sewage works, by the time I got back the moon was a lot higher and some clouds had rolled in.

On a night when there are fireworks all around lighting up the sky, only a blipper could get excited about spending half an hour photographing a sewage works at night. Luckily the wind was blowing in the opposite direction. I will try and take some more firework photos in the next few days, but as this shot took me a lot of attempts to get right, today's blip is the .....
