I first noticed this particular patch of thrift when we were on our honeymoon and it would have been very close to the same day as this. Of course, at the time, it seemed then like the most magnificent sea of thrift that had ever been and I remember us marvelling at it; the richness of the colour, the glorious light, the joy of this thriving breezy colony and their exuberant wave across my memory.
Now, although still beautiful, and lovely to see, they seem so much more patchy. Their hold on the shifting sands seems so much more fragile and tenuous.
And I’m not sure if that is down to the differences of perception and the filters we bring to the moment, the unreliability of memory, or if it is as it actually is and a true reflection of reality.
