Prague by Night
I didn’t sleep very well last night and I was awake at 4am which was 3am UK time and as much as I tried, I couldn’t get back to sleep, so I ended up catching up on Blip! I also chatted to Lorraine who was on her way to the airport, and I contemplated getting up, but when I looked outside it was rather cloudy, and no chance of a sunrise, so I put my sleep mask on to blank out the light and managed an extra couple of hours sleep.
After breakfast we joined the ‘open top’ bus tour around Prague, stopping off at the castle. It’s an amazing place with views right across the city. We’d paid for a castle tour, saw the changing of the guard and while we were there an escorted car arrived with the Polish President or Prime Minister - our guide wasn’t sure which.
After our tour, I saw a sign advertising that the Royal Castle Orchestra were playing in St George’s Basilica which is within the castle, at 5.30pm , and the headliner was Canon in D by Pachelbel which is my favourite and was our wedding tune. We bought VIP tickets and had seats on the front row and are glad we did, it was amazing and such a wonderful venue!
We arranged for the hotel driver to pick us up from the castle at 7pm and after a quick freshen up we went out for something to eat. We had another nice meal and then I left mum at the restaurant while I went to take some night shots at the Charles Bridge. I met three ladies from Columbia who couldn’t speak English, and one was taking a photo of the other two, so I offered to take one of the three of them. They were very grateful and insisted on taking a selfie with me and were really good fun. I had to brush up on my Spanish rather quickly and I was very rusty but we understood each other and had a laugh! Then there were fireworks over the bridge and typically I had the wrong lens on, but they were nice to see - when I got back to the restaurant the waiter asked if I’d taken any nice shots so I showed him a few including the fireworks and he said they don’t often have fireworks so I was lucky! This shot is taken from the Charles Bridge looking back over to the Castle and I’ve added a few extras including the inside of the Basilica.
Back at the hotel now and it’s time for bed, hopefully I sleep better than last night!
