You put your right leg in...
Another scorcher!
David took Lola out this morning while it was still cool and she had a lovely woodland walk. They met a lovely chocolate lab called Toby and they had fun playing together.
David picked Alan's pal Andrew up and brought him to ours for the day. Alan and Andrew spent most of the afternoon in the back garden and we spent most of the afternoon in the side garden (Alan didn't want to hang our with his boring mum and dad! :-)
Lola went out with dog walker R on her usual Thursday afternoon walk with him. When he returned he said despite trying to coax Lola to walk slowly in the shade, Lola had other ideas! She had a big drink of water when she got back and flopped down in the shade to rest.
We thought we would get out her new paddling pool to give her the chance to have a proper cool off. Heavens above! You'd have thought we were trying to persuade her to get into a fire pit! She barked at it, drank from it before she finally lifted a paw and tentatively dabbed it on the surface of the water, but that was it! This from the girl who can sniff out the tiniest puddle of water on her walks and can't wait to jump in!
She is not alone, the Facebook Golde Retriever page that I am a member of is full of photos and videos of Goldies launching themselves into rivers and lakes and rolling in puddles, then refusing to get in a paddling pool. They soon learn though and I know when she does, she won't want to get out the damn thing!
I did suggest to David that he should sit in it to try and encourage her but for some reason he rejected that idea :-))
After she dipped her paw in and her face, she decided it was snooze time and jumped up beside me and fell sound asleep (see extra.)
Alan and Andrew went out for a walk this evening with Kirsten and met a Border Collie who lives down the road. Alan was very taken with him and I like to think that's because he's used to Lola now.
Before Andrew left we had the usual discussion of when his next visit would be. Once a date was agreed he said he would put it into his phone calendar. When it came to describing the event David suggested putting "Going to visit my best friend Alan." Andrew said that he had a better suggestion and promptly entered "Going to my second home." He's such a sweetheart.
Found out today that D and I will have to cut our four nights away next week down to three, as through no fault of their own, the team member who was going the overnight on Thursday night can no longer do it and no one else is free. Oh well, three nights are better than none.
