Hoober Stand, Wentworth Woodhouse

Our next camera club competition is for photos taken within the parish of Wentworth and although on previous visits I have taken photos, none of them are really up to print standard. Anyway, I've become intrigued by the historic rivalry between the branch of the family that owned Stainborough Castle, approx. 2 miles from where I live, and the one at Wentworth Woodhouse, which is about 9 miles away. Family one-upmanship was demonstrated with the building of very impressive follies. Both families did it and although at one level I suspect that Thomas Watson-Wentworth won I think our Wentworths built the more tasteful ones!!

We actually went to look for `The Needles Eye' and found Hoober Stand instead. (A problem caused by trying to remember what was on the map rather than actually re-looking at it!) Though it was a bit dark by the time we got there we enjoyed the fresh air of the walk and took a few photos - not competition stuff though. So I'll just have to go back!
