The day got off to a wonderful start. I was standing at the kitchen window when just a few yards away a woodpecker landed on an apple tree right in front of me.

The rest of the day was spent doing household chores, a little gardening and eating homemade soup and cake.

It was only later that I realised that I hadn't taken a photo by which time it was dark outside.
