It was a perfect spot to sit and wait and enjoy the warm sunshine with the lovely perfume of the adjacent wallflowers in Princes Street Gardens. After having taken the chance of lift into Edinburgh I had a long wait for my train but I didn't mind at all. Little did I know that once I changed at Preston I, and very many others, would have a long wait on a depressing platform while train after train was cancelled or delayed "due to driver shortages". Apparently Northern rail were "improving" the timetables. This means that hundreds no longer have trains stopping at their stations and today very many in the north west had problems getting to and from work. Luckily I did get a seat when a train eventually arrived and then my third train was running although a bit late.
