Kalmar

Today we crossed back over the Kalmar Sound between the town of Kalmar and the island of Öland, and spent the day in the town.
We started at the county museum and looked at a beautifully designed exhibition about the Kronan. The man-of-war capsized, caught fire, blew up, and sank, in 1676, during a naval battle between Denmark and Sweden. The wreckage was found in 1980 and divers have worked on the site every summer since, bringing up thousands of artifacts, now housed in the museum.
The day was too wonderful to be spent entirely indoors so later we walked around town and I took this picture of Kalmar's old water tower, now converted into apartments.
In the evening we were at the folkhighschool listening to really good music performed by the music courses at the school, former students, and a few professional performers.  It was lovely to listen to such talented young people who are so interested in music.
