Side Yard

Not many spots like this remain in NE Portland with so many older homes replaced by urban density and more upscale living.
This is the side yard of, what was an abandoned old church, that houses the Portland Playhouse. The theater group started in 2008, got a huge boost in 2010 from performing August Wilson's last play, "Radio Golf," about gentrification. Then, the space was closed by the City for illegal use of a church in a neighborhood. But neighbors rallied, fought back, and the theater reopened in the now nicely renovated church.
Marjorie treated me to an extra ticket to another August Wilson play: "Fences." Gut-wrenching, heart-breaking, excellent.
