Annual

It was the annual Bradford Urban Wildlife Group Green Hairstreak walk, although this year only myself and the walk leader turned up. Thankfully some Green Hairstreaks turned up as well, although perhaps not so many as we thought given the sunshine, but perhaps it was too hot.

Combing the bilberry patches we also found lots of Common Heath,  Brown Silver-line and tiny Bilberry Roller (extra) moths. It also seemed a good day for Green-veined Whites in two marshy patches of the moor and there were a few Small Tortoiseshell zipping past too.

At the end of the survey I decided to walk home the long way round via Glovershaw, Birch Close Lane & Sconce, which gave me a chance to watch and listen to the waders and admire, from the other side of a wall at a suitable distance, the Lapwing chicks (extra).
