Preparing for maiden flight.
A memorable day for a number of different reasons. We were having lunch on the patio when just in front of us a Cockchafer ( May Bug) emerged from the soil and climbed into a small rose bush to shelter from the sun under the foliage. Google tells me that the larva can spend between 3 and 5 years underground before emerging, then they fly at night. Fearsome looking brutes but totally harmless. The extra is a "starburst" of tiny spiders from a large group of them.
