High Flying Heron

I was surprised to see this Grey Heron high up in a tree in Abington Park, Northampton today. They are heavy birds and these top branches looked too flimsy to bear its weight.

Those extra 'beards' of plumage appear only in breeding season, so perhaps he was looking out from this vantage point for a mate.
