Masjid E Jazeera

The first mosque in the Outer Hebrides opened today (May 11th). It was converted from a derelict building within 4 weeks, and paid for through crowdfunding, at a cost of £50,000. Lewis and Harris have a muslim population of up to 80, including a number of Syrian refugees. The opening drew a large number of people, also those who came to Stornoway specially for the event.

Masjid E Jazeera means Island Mosque.
