Dozing on the Job

This National Gallery warden was not about to miss out on the sunshine during his break today and seemed oblivious of the passers by on the Playfair Steps.
No sooner had I tried to capture his forty winks than a bevy of tourists also had him lined up in their shots. I didn’t wait to see if he opened an eye at any point and became self conscious.

Having erected the sunshade more in hope than expectation, the sun took fright and hid behind an increasingly cloudy sky. The sunshade was dismantled and we retreated inside. No dozing in the sun for His Lordship and me this afternoon even though we look out on scantily clad students doing just that on the grass in the Meadows. Oh to be young again and immune to cold draughts.
